=============================
Greetings Joe!

RW>>>> Didn't they also give you clothing and a toothbrush?

JD>>> Uniforms, yes. Toothbrush, only when you saw the dentist.

RW>> Wasn't that a requirement? A new recruit has to get a haircut, lift
RW>> his scrotum for the doctor and cough, and visit the dentist.

JD> Full medical required prior to acceptance yes.

Marine Corp Recruit, c1958...'sorry son, the USMC only accepts tuna that
tastes good'

JD> There was no minimum for dental health to join.

Recruits got a dental checkup, even before they're accepted in the USMC.
Cavities and dental work required go in your file as you progress through
the medical checkup.

JD> However, a dental checkup was required at least once a year, if not
JD> every 6 months. I dont remember for certain the frequency.

My SIL was in the USMC during the Gulf War. I'm surprised that they kept
him with all of the allergys that he had/has. Imagine being in a combat
situation in a fox hole with him and he can't stop sneezing. I'm surprised
that he survived laying low on a rooftop while the enemy walked in and
around the building.

RW>> Of course, but it does help the smallest businessman stay in
RW>> business in the face of more and higher taxes. When I first started
RW>> out, I didn't realize that there were so many taxes and fees that
 RW>> businesses had to pay.

JD> Oh, I'm aware that many small business do hire part time, and I dont
JD> disagree with that so much, as I disagree with large corporations
 JD> doing it.

So you would mandate that they hire full time or nothing. That's typical
liberal thinking.

JD>>> The only ones that pay well, actually, and have happy employees,
JD>>> are those without unions, and who care about their employees.

RW>> True. A union tried to get into the National Tea Company when I
RW>> worked there as a teen. If they had succeeded, I would have quit.

JD> My wife worked for General Mills, until they closed up shop here in
JD> town. Strange because this was the most modern facility in the
JD> country. They are still paying rent on the building. That was I
JD> believe more then 5 years ago.

Are you sure they don't own it or they have a lease that has to be
fulfilled?

JD> At one point they tried to bring a union in there as well. My wife
JD> having come from a Union shop argued against it.

Good.

JD> They thought that they would keep all the benefits they had now,
 JD> and go from there.

Doesn't work that way. The union goons negotiate a contract with the
company and you're subject to that contract if you have to join the union.
And the company isn't going to make an exception because you voted against
it.

JD> When she explained it to them about having to start from scratch, the
JD> union idea sort of went south <G>

Cool.

JD>>> Costco is one such, and General Mills was another. They pay way
JD>>> above the minimum wage, and paid health and dental benefits as
 JD>>> well, with excellent coverage.

 RW>> Cool.

JD>>> They are paying my pension(s) as well <G>

RW>> Gov't is paying mine as well, but I also contributed to it over the
RW>> years, so it isn't a handout of taxpayer money taken by the gov't.

JD> Yes, I paid at least 50% of my service pension, and also my Govt
JD> retirement pension AKA CPP. When I turned 65 my service pension was
JD> reduced by the amound of that pension. We (ex military and RCMP) are
JD> still fighting that. I doubt we will ever win though.

That's a strange one. It used to be that a retired person here couldn't
make a certain amount/year or he'd have his SS reduced by $1 for every 2
or 3 earned as employment pay. That no longer applies though.

JD>>> As for not having to do anything for it, I'm afraid my son would
JD>>> disagree. He puts in long hours at times

RW>> That was a figure of speach. Most gov't employees would be making
RW>> minimum wages in the real world.

JD> You mean like 6 city workers leaning on a shovel and watching the 7th
 JD> digging a hole?

That's about it. The construction company that owned the property that my
first shop was in did that. The foreman would stand around and watch other
workers stand around, while one person worked on their project. I was
surprised one day when I came to work by the foreman actually using a
shovel himself. Everyone else in the complex knew about this and we all
bitched about how they were wasting our 'ground keeper's fees' money...

    Have a day!
