Indeed - but it is much easier to recognise the breed of dog than the type of
person who might do that. The fact that the dog has been trained to be
aggressive can remain hidden until the dog mauls some passer by.

There is no evidence of anyone being mauled to death in Australia by those
smaller dog breeds - however aggressive they've been trained to be (or allowed
to become).

There is evidence of people being seriously mauled, sometimes to death, by
larger/heavier breeds particularly the pit bull.

Yes the owner of the animal is prosecutes after the event and the dog destroyed
but that does not bring back the old lady from the grave or restore the face
torn off the little child.

An assault weapon is designed to be deadly when used correctly. Even missuse
can achieve that.

There seems to be some resistance here to removing the human race from the
equation - once again it is easier to recognise the assault weapon than to
recognise someone who might go nutso when in possession of one.

There is less resistance here to passing laws that allow the banning of certain
dog breeds and firearm types than to ban certain mentalties of person. The
dog/firearm can be spotted from day one, the nutter cannot usually be spotted
until they've gone over the edge.

Also banning/limiting things is much cheaper to do than educate the populace as
a whole.

Banning assault weapons and certain breeds of dog doesn't really bother the
majority of Australians - they cannot see any need to have either, have no
desire for either. They accept such legislation.
