Ward posted a joke.  A Chrysler joke.  He made it personal by freely
admitting that he was stupid enough to have bought a Chrysler, and had
actually believed he could get it serviced by a reputable dealer.

If Ward was a stand-up comic, his story would make a great act.
Maybe even get a half hour on Comedy Central.

Roy is a master of flames.  His antics seem to be in fun, or in jest.
Not in a manner of being insulting to the point of being malicious.

Sometimes, a flame can be misinterpreted and taken the wrong way.
That is why it is best to have a thick skin if one enters a flame
echo, or enters an echo where flames are allowed.

A flame is not (or should not) harrassment or intimidation of a
participant.  Flames did not originate with fidonet, or with the
internet.  Flames existed long before then, in publications such
as magazines and newspapers, usually found in the "letters to the
editor" section, where writers would go after each other tooth
and nail, calling each other every kind of nasty name they could
think of.  The best flamers in those days were much better than
today's flamers, especially since them old timers could make a
coherent argument while spilling bile at the same time.

Back in the early 1980s, in the op-ed pages of the New York Times,
a flame war broke out between critics of "Puff the Magic Dragon" and
the songwriters/performers of that famous song - Peter, Paul and Mary.
The critics argued that the song was about drugs and alcohol and a
sordid way of life, etc.  Peter, Paul and Mary set them straight,
explaining the lyrics, and the audience the song was intended for.
You see, it was a children's song.  And the basis for the song
was the days of your, such as King Arthur and his Knights.  You do
realize that knights fought dragons ...

Anybody who admits to having bought a Chrysler is insulting himself
and his family.  Roy was just rubbing it in.

Ward brought it up.  At first, I thought it was just a joke.  But
then, Ward admitted that he had actually bought a Chrysler, and that
his daughter used it.  You have to admit that's kind of like adding
stupid on top of stupid.

Stand up if you think it's OK to insult yourself and/or your own
daughters, sons, members of your family.  Remember, many Americans
consider Chrysler a joke.

The ultimate low was the "gentleman's agreement" you made with
you know who.  Secret deals should never be a part of fidonet.
At least you learned from your experience, and hopefully others
have as well.

It's kind of hard to defend Roy on this one, and maybe there is
no defense.  But it does seem to me that his intent was to flame,
rather than disparage.
