Hello Maurice.

16 Feb 09 17:48, you wrote to me:

Hmmm ... , 16bit was not bad, and possibly they didn't try too hard for/with
32bit, as it would have competed head on with "Winders" ... , and that they
didn't want, they wanted everyone to move to "Winders" ...

MK> Understood. One thing in favour for the lcd monitors is that they are

MK> Good enough though all things considered. Always a tradeoff it seems.

Anything easier on the eyes, is welcome here, especially now that my new eye
glasses make it difficult for me to find a possition where I can focus on the
screen and type at the same time ... :-(((

Dunno, but they don't make them the way they used too ... , but as you say,
prices have improved considerably ...

MK> Good idea. I found the 2.5", 44-pin, 5200rpm Hatchi drives to be the
MK> best for external cases given that their operating temps are the
MK> coolest. For usb they are ideal. Might be harder to find as time goes

MK> since nobody wants them given they think they aren't as good as the
MK> newer/faster ones which are WAY hotter. For external cases cooler is
MK> better methinks even if it costs in speed.

Around here, they tend to sell out "old" stock fast, as nobody really buys in,
and holds a large stock inventory ... , if they don't have to-day, most get
what you want via overnight courier ...

 >> computer is in the plans for next month, will see how that works out

MK> I like your last plan best. Offhand I'd guess that is what you're
MK> really looking for. Anything it lacks can be compensated for
 MK> successfully later on.

Agreed ...

 >> What needs JACK support, as far as I know, not that I have really

MK> Nothing yet but I plan to have a looksee. Might be ideal for
 MK> streaming purposes.

Okay ... ,that should work ...

MK> So I've noticed. However I think I've proved to myself that high
MK> quality is possibe without breaking the bank and as luck had it I
MK> already have much of what I needed to pull it off. I don't have much
MK> faith that the turntable will go the distance but given it's age it
MK> did an excellent job of keeping me entertained and with a bit of
MK> coaxing still is. Simply amazing.

Turntables just need some loving care and a little lubrication and they just
keep on working, just don't abuse the cartridge ... , somehow you got yourself
a much better than normal sound card, so you are okay in that regard ...

MK> Hitachi btw. It was a brandnew clearance item when I first got it way
MK> back when. Excellently priced and good quality given that it is still
MK> useable ... for now. :::knock on wood:::

MK> I may have to retire it soon.

Like I said, usually for turntables, a little loving catre is all they need
...
