Hello Maurice.

18 Feb 09 15:33, you wrote to me:

Well, all things being equal, 48000Hz should be better, byt then as you point
out, there are too many varibles .... , why I said "should" :-)

I also prefer the I/O connections on the Audiophile 192 card ... , and I think
I just found a place where I might be able to get one locally ... , tho again,
I am not betting they will have stock ...

 >> Got enough pre-amps here ... :-)

MK> Only need the right one. :-)

Yep, only one needed ... , but I have three that are capable of handling LP
replay, a cheapie phono stage and a decent integrated amp will handle moving
magnet cartridge input, and my more upmarket pre-amp will do either moving
magnet or moving coil input ...

FLAC stands for "Free Lossless Audio Compressor", and the default compression
level is level 5, but level 9 is the maximum compression level setting
available ... , the wav format is a container format, and 10 minutes of
silence, or 10 minutes of classical orchestra cresendo's will be exactly the
same size ... , but each will compress to different sizes ... , using flac ...

MK> Anyhow I've decided to go with ecasound's wav for the so-called

I find it easier to "rip" cd's using abcde "A Better CD Encoder", it allows
one to rip to numerous different formats at the same time ... , read once and
convert to wav, mp3, and ogg similtaniously ...

 >> wav always wins for a base to convert to any other format ... :-) ,

MK> Agreed and disagreed. In this case I object to the 'wasteful' part

Agreed, but, like I said above, wav format is wasteful of disk space, and
flac, when uncompressed, will give you an exact uncompressed copy of the wav
file that it was made from ... , it is a lossless audio compressor ...

Hmm ... :-)

MK> Why buy a 32-bit processor if 16-bit is all one requires?

The point is that they didn't make a 32 bit DOS, as it would compete with
Windows, which was supposedly 32 bit - but was not fully until WIN2000/WINXP

Unfortunately ...

Ouch! okay, so it is one of those overly complicated types, that I avoid like
the plaque ... , I am only intersted in those, that are of the "basic" manual
type, very little can go wrong with them ...
