Ärende: The World Turns... 2.
==============================
On or about: 08-02-06 23:56, Ardith Hinton did engage James Bradley regarding,
but not limited to: The World Turns... 2.

AH> Yes. When Nora was about six years old she went through a
AH> stage where she couldn't seem to get her mind around the notion
AH> that if she liked milk, for example, it was all right if I
AH> liked milk too. It's a stage in which some kids believe
AH> that if person xxx is their friend this person can't be
AH> allowed to have other friends. I suppose it may be when
AH> kids start to come to terms with their own individuality &
AH> need to feel unique. But I see a lot of grownups acting in
AH> much the same way. They apparently think they can make
AH> themselves look good by making others look bad... and it
AH> may work often enough that they see no need to change. It
AH> may also be a sign of a wounded six-year-old in an adult
 AH> body. :-/

It must have been on W5, that exposed the corporate sociopath. These - likely
wounded 6yo |-) would arrive in a harmonious environment, and
proceed to divide and concur every last shred of compassion. Because they
contracted out report collating, they were able to shed another half a
full-time position, where the boss-boss rewards them with a Christmas bonus.
This is waved in the face of anyone who attempts to show a
back-bone in front of them. (Typ. B-)

Contrary to what we expect, these people are encouraged by upper management,
and despised 'on the floor.' The office loses efficiency, because
everyone is too busy stabbing each other in the back, but we increase
'productivity' because the pension plan is now solidly invested in their own
sinking ship, soon to be a relic at the bottom of a body of water.

I'm sure many head offices are aware of the effects to cutting their own
throats, but I'm also pretty secure in my estimation, that there are plenty
boardrooms *full* of sociopaths. (EG: Enron)

AH> So it worked for you... that's good! There's
AH> where a person might say "Hmm, I suppose they have a point"
AH> & try to make a few positive changes, or say "Okay, I'll
AH> show you" & try to match others' expectations and/or
 AH> alleged record

And, there slots perspective. Someone perpetually bending under their
'superiors' might be constituted as a 'brown nose', where the too easy to
take offence, may be labelled a contrarian, and unnecessarily antagonistic. The
point of view would influence your assessment, as would - I
suspect - your experience with others in a similar frame.

"What condition, my condition was in." Spheres of influence, and all that.

AH> ... or go away & crawl under a rock because others'
AH> standards are unattainable. Many people of my parents'
AH> age... and, I regret to say, some of their offspring
AH> ... feel they shouldn't comment on what others are doing right. They
AH> feel that a person who is doing everything right is merely doing
AH> what's expected of them, and such a person may get a
AH> swelled head if they receive any positive feedback. As a
AH> result of that sort of upbringing I resolved to tell people
AH> what I thought they were doing right. I think I'm a better
AH> person for it. But I also see how such a line of reasoning
AH> can be used in a manipulative way. If I'm preoccupied with
AH> showing others I'm not as bad as they believe I am, for
AH> example, I may not notice whether they are living up to
AH> their apparent opinion of themselves. :-)

Oh, I'm equally eager to prove my worth, just not so concerned if others don't
find me brilliant. <G>

JB> I also have exposure to parents, that I can usually jab
JB> with a quirk which might not be considered flattering.

AH> I gather they can dish it out, but they can take it too....
 AH> :-)

They have their faults, and not always receptive about a critique. Of course,
I'm the only sane one of the bunch, and flawless in my cutting jabs at
them, with impeccable timing. O-8*

AH> Humour is a great tool... but it doesn't always transplant
AH> well. When I was younger I often kept my sense of humour hidden
AH> because other folks seemed to be offended by it. Now I
AH> tend to let it all hang out because it helps me to
AH> distinguish the intuitive people from those who need to be
AH> told "This is a joke

Well, when I call myself a cripple, you know pretty soon who has hangups about
it. Like a tuning fork, you can tell if someone sympathises with
your vibe. When in step, the fork is going to get sore sides.

AH> ... laugh here!" Even so, I found it hard to accept that
AH> certain people felt I was too serious when I shared jokes
AH> which had other oncology parents rolling in the aisles.
AH> Maybe humour depends to some extent on shared
 AH> experiences.... :-)

I heard somewhere, most humour is a redirection from what the audience expects.
Then comes physical humour, or something or another... Don't
ask me how they arrived at their figures on percentages. Indubitably, there was
some 'tongue in cheek' there too. <G>
