JK> We see a lot of that in our family... My son is allergic to tomatoes
JK> (mostly raw, but with enough other allergy-type foods, even cooked
JK> tomatoes will bother him). My daughter who has had the world's worst
JK> allergies all of her life can eat tomatoes and they don't bother her
JK> at all :) Of course that's now.. when she was a tiny baby, the only
JK> foods that didn't bother her were lamb and uncooked apples (g).

Sprat Family Syndrome... (G)

 >> days (thankfully).. but of course one of the side-effects of the
 >> Ampyra I just started last month is ..... re-newed attacks from MS
 >> (vbg). I laughed so hard when I read that in the info sheet :) :) A
 >> perfect example of what we're talking about :)
 > Hopefully that will be one side effect you WON'T get... :)

JK> So far, the only side effects I've seen are some numbness in my lower
JK> leg and UTIs. It's not as aggravating as when the numbness goes all
JK> the way up to my waist, so I can pretty much ignore that. As far as
JK> the UTIs go, thankfully, I always have tons of Olive Leaf Extract
JK> around, and that does take care of UTI's. I've already gotten a
JK> prescription for the strongest antibiotic for the first UTI it gave
JK> me, so I'm hesitant to ask my neuro or family doc for more. They'd
JK> probably tell me to can the ampyra :(

Or they might not have given you a long enough run of the antibiotic to
quell the infection... But if the Olive Leaf Extract works better than
the meds, then I'd go for that, too... :) Depending on how well it
worked generally, they might just tell you that you'll just have to deal
with the UTIs... but it looks like you've made that decision for
yourself already... ;)

 > Is it working ok, btw? Helping any?

JK> It is helping a lot so I'm determined to stick it out and get past the
JK> above, one way or another (g). The biggest problem I've run into is

They do say that some of the side effects go away after awhile when your
body gets used to it... and if not, then you have to figure out whether
it's worth the side effect to get the good effects... :)

JK> taking it within the same hour every day.. If I'm overtired, I will
JK> generally oversleep and then I'll miss the right time for the morning
JK> pill :) I have a feeling that taking it at the same time every night
JK> and day is important since it's a time-release medication.

Maybe you need to nudge your schedule a little later...? Or does it
need to be taken fasting...? Even the time-release meds generally have
a little slop-factor built in... so they don't have to be EXACTLY on
time, after all. But, yes, it does generally help to take such pills on
a fairly regular schedule. :)

 >>> Haven't a clue if that was placebo effect at work, or there was really
 >>> enough mint to make the difference... Tasted nice, and was cooling as
 >>> well, though...  ;)
 >> Sounds yummy :) I always feel like if something is working for me
 >> because it is a placebo, then it's ok, it's just my own body taking
 >> care of things (g).
 > 'Tis indeed yummy. ;) And I don't knock the placebo effect either...
 > if it works that's fine... especially if it's something innocuous to
 > begin with... :)

JK> That's how I feel about olive leaf extract, though it's supposedly
JK> been used for eons to treat infections.

Of course, many of today's meds are developed from natural remedies. :)

 > If it tricks the mind to cope better, that's not a
 > problem in my book either. I just recently caught a snatch of a M*A*S*H
 > show where they had run out of painkillers and had no way of getting any
 > more quickly, so decided to make up sugar pills to use instead... All
 > the docs and nurses were in on it, and they just made it work, since the
 > alternative was all those wounded soldiers in pain... they got the
 > patients' minds to override the pain by giving them something that was
 > "guaranteed to work"...

 JK> Isn't it outrageous how the mind works. A built-in doctor :)

A lot of the tricks and methods of dealing with childbirth pain that I
learned in the childbirth classes I've used right along for all sorts of
other pain... among the very most useful things I've learned in my life!

JK> Hmm.. I could save a ton of money if I could convince myself haha :)

That could be the real trick... fooling yourself that it's effective
meds instead of placebo, when you made it up yourself... ;)
